NPCs stay selected even when I am far away from them

I targetted Farmer Sam, and then kept running. I ran a considerable distance from him but his nameplate still showed in the middle of the screen (presumably he is still targetted). In WoW, once you get a certain distance from an NPC it removes it as a target. In fact, in the WoW client, once you get a certain distance from an NPC it is removed from the client space (the server still knows about it, of course) and thus it is deselected, as the client no longer knows about it.
