typing to chat with an open npc quest dialog focuses on npc interaction

i walk to an quest npc, start the dialogue and when i open chat, pressing spacebar interactions with the quest dialogue instead of creating spaces in the chat. a "hello there" becomes "hellothere" instead and the space press gets stolen by the npc.
